In Sanskrit, the word Chakra literally means spinning disc. The body chakras then are spinning discs of energy … whirling vortexes that receive, assimilate, and transmit life force energy. Plainly put, our chakras are the link between mind and body, spirit and matter. The chakras are constantly rotating and vibrating along our spine, communicating with our glands and endocrine system, providing them with vital energy and the spark of life.
Each of the 7 main chakras corresponds specifically to its own organ, thereby regulating both physical and mental processes. When you feel tension in your consciousness, you feel it in the chakra associated with that part of your consciousness experiencing the stress, and in the parts of the physical body associated with that chakra. When the tension continues over a period of time, or to a certain level of intensity, the person creates a symptom on the physical level. For example, an excessive third chakra might result in a large belly, or a personality that’s known as power-hungry or excessively competitive. A constricted fifth chakra results in tight shoulders, sore throat or shyness. Because of this relationship, each chakra reflects an aspect of consciousness vital to our lives. And as a complete system, the chakras provide a powerful tool for personal and planetary growth.
Chakras may be open or nearly closed, overactive or deficient, or anywhere in between. Ailing chakras need healing by restoring to them the proper flow of life energy. As they are the gateways to energy and healing, balancing these energy centers leads to health, fitness, and spiritual acuity.
